At Woolworths Group we care deeply about others and we know when we come together we can have a positive impact. This is why we are partnering with Australian Red Cross on their Ukraine Crisis Appeal to help provide emergency relief and longer-term humanitarian support to people and communities affected by this unfolding crisis.
Woolworths Group team, if you can please give generously. Your contribution will help provide life-saving support right now, and in the weeks and months to come.
While hostilities have begun and displacement of the population has already started across Ukraine and towards neighbouring countries, the immediate humanitarian needs are rapidly evolving, Red Cross is expecting these to be massive and affect all the regions in the country.
The Red Cross Movement plans to be active in the following fields:
· Humanitarian activation to address immediate and longer term needs in Ukraine and neighbouring countries, including to people who are displaced
· Emergency relief, shelter, water and sanitation etc.
· Providing protection and assistance to the civilian population
· Distribution of relief assistance to the civilian population, including people displaced and people on the move
· Restoring family links between separated family members with a specific focus on unaccompanied minors and extremely vulnerable persons like elderly and disabled
· Promoting respect for International Humanitarian Law, ensuring respect and dignity for people deprived of freedom
· Integrated assistance to people in need, including shelter and cash assistance, when the situation allows
Neutrality and impartiality are two of Red Cross’ fundamental principles. This means they do not take sides in hostilities and they do not discriminate based on race, religion or political opinions. As a result, they have the ability to access areas to provide humanitarian relief in conflict zones where other organisations can’t.
